MBLI - DESIGN COMPONENTS

SCHOOL STRUCTURE AND ORGANIZATION

  • Inclusive Educational Institution: MBLI is set to offer a robust academic curriculum, a wide range of extracurricular and athletic programs, and comprehensive support services to cater to a diverse group of students.

  • Educational Framework: MBLI will operate as two distinct entities within one institution. The Middle School will serve students in grades 6-8, while the High School will cater to those in grades 9-12.

Educational Enhancements at MBLI

  • Summer Bridge Learning Program: Designed to academically evaluate and bolster students' abilities in preparation for their transition into MBLI. This program also offers an introduction to the school's culture and academic expectations.

  • Dress Code: Students are required to adhere to a school uniform policy daily, with the addition of business attire for formal occasions, special projects, and presentations.

  • Extended Learning Hours: MBLI extends classroom time beyond traditional limits to cover a broad spectrum of subjects, moving away from the conventional model of compressing an extensive curriculum into a restricted timeframe.

  • Global Business and Leadership Education: Students will receive education in life skills, business acumen, and leadership, taught through a curriculum that values social responsibility.

  • Comprehensive Education Curriculum: MBLI’s curriculum builds on the Core Knowledge Sequence©, advocating for the acquisition of a wide-ranging, contextual knowledge base, and the Integrated Curriculum Model© for advanced learners, promoting in-depth knowledge, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary learning. English Language Arts, Reading, and Communication are foundational, supporting success across all subjects and in post-educational life. The STEAM program encourages curiosity, innovation, teamwork, and analytical thinking.

  • Language Learning: Studying foreign languages enhances cognitive functions, brain development, and the ability to process information.

  • Creative Arts: The arts are integrated not just as practical subjects but as a means to enrich cross-disciplinary learning.

  • Health and Wellness: A comprehensive approach to health education encourages habits for a healthy and improved lifestyle.

  • Supportive Academic Environment: Tutored study halls and workshops are available during school hours for homework assistance, academic support, and exam preparation.

  • Community Service: Starting in 6th grade, community service is compulsory for all grade levels to promote civic responsibility. Activities may include assisting the elderly, community clean-ups, food bank support, feeding the homeless, and peer tutoring, among others.

  • Peer Mentorship: Incoming classes are paired with Peer Mentors from senior grades to facilitate a smoother educational journey at MBLI.

  • Career and Academic Support: Career Program Facilitators offer year-round career guidance, academic advice, and personal support to students.

mbli business symposium

The opportunities for students who are trained in Business are endless. Connecting career opportunities to the business principles taught in the classroom is essential for encouraging students to remain connected to the Business field.  To that end, the MBLI Business Symposium is a single-day forum designed to engage MBLI staff, students and their families, along with MBLI partners in industry, government, and academia.

MBLI School Store

The MBLI School Store offers students a practical platform to apply business concepts learned in the classroom to a real business operation. In this authentic business environment, students will engage in various roles, including merchandising, scheduling employees, managing inventory, providing customer service, and handling cash transactions. Additionally, the student body will be invited to participate in decisions regarding the allocation of store profits, adding an extra layer of involvement and incentive.

As part of MBLI's focus on employment skills, students will undergo the process of applying for positions at the store and participating in job interviews. They will also learn how to solicit references or recommendations to support their job applications. The MBLI School Store is designed to offer multiple advantages:

  1. Ensuring Student Preparedness: The inconvenience of forgotten school supplies like pencils and notebooks will be mitigated, as these items will be readily available for purchase. Furthermore, when teachers require specific books or tools for their courses, the store will ensure these are in stock for students to buy.

  2. Generating Funds for School Initiatives: Proceeds from the store will be channeled back into the school, supporting necessary building maintenance, field trips, special events, and end-of-year activities, creating a sustainable internal fundraising model.

  3. Fostering School Spirit: The store will cultivate a sense of pride among students, not only in their contributions but also in their collective identity as part of the broader MBLI community.

MBLI BANKING

The MBLI Banking Program offers students a practical platform within the school to actively manage their finances and gain a foundational understanding of financial responsibility. This program underscores the importance of financial literacy from an early age, preparing students for adult responsibilities (Credit Unions in Schools, n.d.). Participating MBLI students will be provided with a complimentary savings account at a credit union, enabling them to handle banking transactions conveniently on the MBLI campus.

As an integral component of MBLI's financial literacy initiative, which includes money management courses and career development programs, students will receive guidance and training on operating a bank branch. This hands-on experience will teach students about the significance of confidentiality, professionalism, appropriate conduct in a business setting, and effective communication skills. In their high school years, students will have the opportunity to acquire invaluable workplace experience by assuming roles such as tellers, bookkeepers, and computer operators, further enhancing their practical knowledge and skills in the financial sector.
